Knowji, Inc. announces the availability of Knowji AWL (Academic Word List)
Palo Alto, CA (October 20, 2013) – Knowji, Inc. announces the availability of its latest vocabulary app – Knowji AWL (Academic Word List) in the App Store. The AWL (Academic Word List) was developed by Averil Coxhead at the world renowned School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies at Victoria Univ. of Wellington, New Zealand. The list of words were selected because they appear with great frequency in a broad range of academic texts. Knowji AWL teaches 620 academic words (570 word families) that all students, particularly ELL learners, need to know in an academic environment.
Infusing great design, content and a smart learning algorithm, Knowji AWL comes with a memory coach and picture words to make learning vocabulary fast, fun and effective. Knowji AWL’s learning algorithm is based on scientifically proven methodologies, and presents words at specifically timed intervals to ensure maximum memory retention. Each word and its example sentence are illustrated with colorful cartoons and a story-like format that maximizes user interest. The app also adapts to a learner based on how well the learner knows a word, so that learning is completely personalized.
“We’re thrilled to make available another high quality vocabulary development app for our users” says Emmie Thomas, CEO and Co-Founder of Knowji. “The AWL is something we’ve been aware of for some time and we think it is an incredibly important list of words for people to know, particularly ELL learners. We’re very excited to be able to make these words available on the Knowji platform given the fantastic response we’ve seen from users of our other vocabulary apps.”
